How to Choose Your Lampshade Fitting

Choosing the right lampshade fitting is important to make sure your shade sits correctly on your lamp, ceiling pendant or light fixture. Below is a simple guide to help you select the correct fitting when ordering your bespoke lampshade.

Pendant Fitting

A pendant fitting is used when the lampshade hangs from the ceiling. The shade usually attaches to the ceiling light cable and bulb holder, with the opening facing downwards.

Table Lamp / Standard UK & EU Fitting

This is one of the most common fittings for UK and European lamps. The frame sits on the lamp base and is secured around the bulb holder.

Clip-On Fitting

Best for small lamps, wall lights and chandelier bulbs.

A clip-on fitting attaches directly to the bulb rather than to a lamp holder. This is often used for smaller decorative lamps, chandeliers, wall lights or candle-style bulbs.

USA Table Lamp Fitting

Best for American-style lamps.

Some USA lamps use a different fitting system, often with a harp and finial. This means the lampshade sits on top of the harp and is secured with a decorative finial at the top.
